Glacial acetic acid, a technical-grade, pure form of acetic acid (CH3COOH), is a colorless, transparent liquid with a pungent odor, originating from China, and used in various industrial processes. This refers to a purity level suitable for industrial applications, not for human consumption or use in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, or food.
In China, glacial acetic acid (technical grade) is primarily manufactured through the carbonylation of methanol, a process that involves reacting methanol with carbon monoxide over a catalyst.
The most common method for producing acetic acid, including technical grade, is the carbonylation of methanol. This process uses methanol as the primary feedstock, along with carbon monoxide and a catalyst. Then it follows the Carbonylation Process process, Methanol reacts with carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst, typically under high pressure and temperature, to form acetic acid. Finally, through Distillation process, the resulting acetic acid is then purified through distillation to obtain the desired technical grade.
Textile Industry
It is employed in textile manufacture during the dyeing process to control the pH of dyeing bath and to aid the absorption of dye by the textile fiber.
